In daylight robbery, Rs 9.5L looted from man outside bank
Gurugram: In a brazen attempt of daylight robbery Rs 9.5 lakh was looted from a man outside the bank. The incident occurred at around 11:00 am near the Indian Bank branch when a person identified as Jayaveera local businessman withdrawn Rs rupees nine and a half a lakh from the bank and was going to his office. All of a sudden three men on the bike confronted him and snatched the bag after which they fled with the bag.
Worryingly in the span of three weeks, this is the seventh such incident that has occurred in the city.
"We are retrieving the CCTV images and will soon be able to get hold of the criminals who are involved in the act. There may have been a sudden spurt in such cases in last few days but overall due to our increased patrolling we have been able to keep a control on such crimes by and large," said a senior official from Gurugram police. Despite the increase in patrolling, snatching continue to pose the problems for law enforcement officials. Moreover, most of the cases remain unsolved for a longer period of time. In 2018 there were 554 cases of snatchings that were officially registered in Gurugram.
Also, there are problems of identifying the victims who normally target their victims in groups. Recently a person who was accused of stealing the phone from the women was let-off by the court due to lack of evidence. What seems to be a worrying factor in these cases is that most of the criminals who start of criminal activities of snatching are not deterred even when they are held by the Police.
"Most of the culprits continue to indulge in these activities and progress towards becoming more sinister criminals who then commit burglaries, kidnappings and murder. Snatching is a stepping stone for them to enter into big crime," said a police official from Gurugram police.
