In a matter of hours, showers inundate most roads in Ggn
Gurugram: As rains lashed Gurugram on Monday, many major roads in the city were inundated with three to four feet of water in just a few hours.
Large-scale waterlogging was reported from areas including Gurugram bus stand, Sector-4, Sector-5, Hero Honda chowk, Sector-10, IFFCO chowk and DLF Phase-3.
A large number of policemen were also deployed on the city roads to manage the abysmal traffic.
There were also many officials also went beyond their call of duty and filled potholes with stones and bricks so that two-wheeler riders do not fall into the ditches and injure themselves.
In different areas of the city, long duration of power cuts were also reported.
Though many of these are recurring problems faced by city residents during monsoon, what has angered them is that despite having been revamped, infrastructure in the city is still being affected by monsoon woes.
Areas like Golf Course Road and National Highway-8, where thousands of crores of investments have been poured in, still face waterlogging and massive traffic snarls.
The flaws of the planning and designing of these areas became evident on August 29 when Gurugram sunk with 128 millimeters of rain.
The worse affected area was the Hero Honda Chowk underpass, where water had filled up to levels of 20 feet. It took more than 36 hours for civic clear the stretch.
It has been alleged that despite claim top-quality construction, developers and engineers have overlooked the construction of drains and instead used the space for either a realty project or construction of an extra lane.
The rest of the area is either used for developing expensive realty projects or for setting up petty commercial units.
The problem of waterlogging further gets compounded after makeshift drains, which have been constructed by the agencies, are not able to withstand water flow.
