IMEI of several phones changed in matter of minutes

New Delhi: In five to ten minutes, the IMEI of the phone can be changed, this was revealed after the arrest of four men including a 70-year-old who used to change the IMEI of the phone in Rs 500.

According to police, the accused were identified as Rafiq (20), Sahil (19), Amjad (70) and Arjun.

"We arrested Rafiq and Sahil on secret information from Shahdara district. During the investigation, it was found that the accused used to sell stolen property to Amjad, a resident of Nand Nagari who was later arrested," police said.

Police further claimed that Amjad got IMEI of robbed J7 Samsung mobile phone changed by one mobile engineer Arjun running a shop of mobile repairing at Kodhi colony in Nand Nagri; he was also nabbed.

"The old man used to buy stolen phones from Rafiq and Sahil and later he used to change the IMEI with the help of Arjun who just took five to ten minutes for the activity and he used to charge Rs 500 rupees for the purpose. After the IMEI got changed, Amjad used to sell them to another person," said an investigator.

Police said that the computers along with specially designed software used for changing the IMEI of stolen and robbed mobile phones also recovered.

Total eight stolen mobile phones with changed IMEI also recovered.

The process of linking the recovered mobiles is in progress.
