Illegally parked vehicles at MG Road now under cops' radar

Gurugram: After taking stern action against the pubs and bars, the Gurugram Police Commissioner KK Rao has issued a warning to those who park their vehicles illegally in the city's MG road area.

Law enforcement officials have increased their fleet of recovery vans, with eight such vehicles having been recently purchased. Most of these will be deployed at the Mall Mile, which continues to face the problem of illegally parked vehicles regularly.

"Gurugram Police is going to act tough on vehicles parked illegally. Service lanes are meant for walking, not for parking. We have increased our inventory of recovery vans and will use it in curbing illegal parking," Rao told reporters.

As the city reels with the challenges of traffic mismanagement and lack of walking spaces, sources in Gurugram Police stated that the drive against wrongly parked vehicles will play a key role in improving the situation.

To begin with, Gurugram Traffic Police will act tough on errant auto drivers who are a major source of complaints, as they often illegally parking autos at key traffic junctions, thereby blocking traffic.

Stringent measures will also be adopted against heavy commercial vehicles that block moving traffic because of being parked in wrong areas.

Sources in Gurugram Police also highlighted that emphasis will be laid on crowded areas, where pedestrians face difficulty due to vehicles being parked on the footpaths.

Taking cognisance of the shortage of parking spaces and vehicles being wrongly parked, officials at Municipal Corporation of Gurugram have also planned to provide free parking facility in various malls, on the pretext of waiving of property tax.
