IGNOU scholar goes missing from JNU campus

New Delhi: 26-year-old PhD scholar has been reported missing since Tuesday from the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, the police said.
Identified as Mukul Jain, the PhD scholar was last seen leaving the JNU campus around 12.30 pm from the East Gate.
The varsity appealed to people with information about his whereabouts to come forward and contact its security staff.
Delhi Police, meanwhile, claimed that the student was not enrolled with JNU and was a part of IGNOU and used to visit his research guide at JNU's School of Life Sciences.
Confirming the new development, DCP (South West) Milind Dumbere said, "The missing person right now is not the registered student of JNU and we are searching him in different areas."
He also confirmed that Jain was pursuing his PhD from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
Police sources said that CCTV footage showed Jain leaving the campus from the University's east gate.
They added that Jain, a resident of Ghaziabad, was last spotted at a college lab on Monday. His mobile phone and his wallet were found in the lab. A missing person's report was registered on January 8.
It is suspected that Jain was having some problems in his relationship, a senior police officer from South West District said. Till now, no foul play has been suspected, he added.
