IAF corporal thrashed, robbed of belongings

In a shameful incident, an Indian Air Force corporal was mercilessly thrashed and robbed of his belongings by a group of men in South-East Delhi's Sangam Vihar area on Thursday.

The officer was caught in the melee after his motorcycle allegedly brushed past their car, after which the youths brought the traffic to a standstill and beat him in broad daylight.

The entire incident was captured on a cell phone of a passerby and was shared on all social networking sites inviting the ire from all quarters of society.

All the accused have been identified and arrested. Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Romil Baniya said that the victim was identified as Sujay Kumar Sikandar, a corporal in the Indian Air Force, posted at Tughlakabad.

The accused were identified as Nitin Gupta, Isa and Neeraj who were picked up from different parts of the city.

Police claimed that Nitin works as a milk supplier in Malviya Nagar.

Police claimed that Nitin works as a milk supplier in Malviya Nagar while Isa works as a storekeeper at a hotel in Mehrauli and Neeraj as a bouncer at a club in Vasant Vihar.

According to police, the incident took place on April 20 when Sikandar's motorcycle brushed past a Swift car.

The group overtook his bike and stopped him on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road near Batra Hospital.

Nitin Gupta, and Isa came out of the car and started assaulting the officer and his colleague, Sikander told the police.

The complainant further claimed that in the meantime, another car pulled up and its driver got into an argument over the road getting blocked.

The three of them then dragged him and robbed his Identification card as well as the registration certificate of his motorcycle.

Acting on the complaint the police managed to arrest all the accused, and recovered all the stolen items.

A case under sections 392 (Punishment for robbery), /279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code has been registered at Sangam Vihar police station.
