New Delhi: A 31-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday from Khera Kalan railway station here for murdering his wife and infant son in Jahangirpuri.
Police said that after killing his wife Shobha and their 18-month-old son on Monday night, Omprakash had slept beside their dead bodies and fled the house on Tuesday morning.
The bloodied bodies of the victims were found with multiple stab wounds on Tuesday morning.
Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Aslam Khan said that investigations revealed that the couple had a strained relationship.
When Shobha and her son were asleep in their room, Omprakash stabbed them with a dagger, the DCP stated.
"After committing this gruesome incident, Omprakash slept through the night along with their dead bodies and early in the morning, he left his jhuggi and absconded ran away," she added.
Police had formed eight teams, led by Jahangirpuri Assistant Commissioner of Police Rakesh Tyagi and Additional Deputy Commisioner of Police (North West) AK Lal, who nabbed the accused at Khera Kalan railway station.
"Assisted with technical inputs and ground level intelligence, the team members raided several locations in and outside Delhi, which included railway stations, ISBTs, shelter homes and other possible hideouts of the accused. Houses of some of his close relatives were also raided,'' said Khan.
After he was arrested and interrogated, the accused broke down and confessed to the crime.
The weapon used by the accused for the double murder – which Omprakash had obtained from his place of work – and his blood-stained clothes were also recovered after he revealed where they were hidden.
