Gurugram: It has been five years since the multiple plot land scam was first highlighted in 2013. However, the web of corruption only grows larger with 150 more people have been charged and 12 FIRs in different police stations of Gurugram.
The case is now being heard in the Punjab and Haryana high court with the next hearing slated to be on March 1.
The massive corruption deal in the land allotment by Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) was busted after an RTI application. It was revealed that top public officials, who were supposed to be allotted residential plots in the special category by the HUDA, faked their affidavits and in the process acquired more than one plot in the posh sectors of Gurugram. Recently, the public agency had suspended 44 officials who were accused of being involved in an estimated Rs 300 crore scam.
While the issue of multiple plot allotment scams has still not been settled and is being heard in the Punjab and Haryana high court now, the latest issue of irregularities in EWS plot allotment has emerged.
The land was to be allotted at Rs 500 per square yard for those people who were earning Rs 3,500 per month in areas of Sushant Lok -2 and 3. However, as per complaints the land has not been given to the required allotees.
The case is now being heard in the Gurugram sessions court and summon were issued against the officials of HUDA and Department of Department of Town and Country Planning to seek their explanation.
For a city where population is over 20 lakhs, various central and state schemes are being initiated for providing affordable housing. However, most of these initiatives are not providing the desired results.
