Hospital sweeper held for sexual assault of 11-year-old
New Delhi: An 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted inside a hospital in Rohini district area on Friday, with police stating they have arrested the accused who works as a sweeper in the hospital.
Initial reports suggested that the girl had been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta stated that early Friday morning, the girl had stepped out of her ward in search of a nurse.
The accused Radhyshyam spotted her and, exploiting the chance, took her to the room where he lives in the hospital premises and assaulted her.
The accused worker had was employed on a contractual basis at the hospital. The incident was reported at 4 am and the accused was immediately arrested, said police.
Police claimed that they got the PCR call in the morning and immediately after the investigation, they arrested the accused from the hospital itself.
"If we had not reached on time, the accused might had fled. But he was nabbed in time," said Gupta.
Radheshyam, in his forties, lives in Samaypur Badli area of north west Delhi.
Sources said the girl had been admitted to the hospital for more than 10 days, with her mother accompanying her.
The accused gagged the girl mouth and took her to the room. In the morning, when a search was undertaken for the girl, she was found and immediately, a PCR call was made.
The DCP further said that they have registered a case under appropriate sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.
The accused is being further questioned in this regard.
This is not the first case of sexual crime against children in the Capital this year.
In August, a nine-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in south west Delhi's Vasant Kunj area. Delhi Police data, accessed by Millennium Post, states till April 15 this year, 244 cases of rape under the POCSO Act were registered with cops.
Meanwhile, the number of cases of molestation with POCSO Act was 156, while that of outraging of modesty with the POCSO Act was eight.
