Hospital CCTV catches electrician stealing money

NEW DELHI: An electrician at Vimhans Hospital in Nehru Nagar meticulously planned a theft by disconnecting wires of CCTV cameras and stealing money from a drawer. However, a camera with just one uncut wire recorded a few seconds of his act, showing him with a screwdriver, leading to his arrest.

On Tuesday, a PCR call about the theft of Rs 1,40,00 at the hospital was received at Lajpat Nagar police station.

The incident occurred between 12.15 am and 1.00 am, when officials were busy conducting admission formalities of patients. "The wires of CCTV cameras covering the cash counter were disconnected. The culprit had committed the offence in a planned manner so as to leave no evidence. Prima facie, it appeared to be the work of an insider," said DCP (South East) Chinmoy Biswal.

During investigation, the statements of Bhola Prasad, an electrician at the hospital, and his whereabouts at the time of the incident were found to be inconsistent. Eventually, one of the CCTV cameras caught him in the act.

During interrogation, Prasad said he stole the money as he wanted to pay off a heavy debt. The money was recovered from water tank.
