High-powered committee formed to enhance forensic coordination

NEW DELHI: As an important measure towards the integration of forensic examination processes and efficient coordination between Delhi Police and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi has constituted a high-powered Coordination Committee, headed by the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime).
The committee, comprising senior officials from Delhi Police, FSL, and other key stakeholders, will focus on matters related to the forensic examination of exhibits and improving the efficiency of forensic processes. The committee would be headed by the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), with members consisting of the Director of FSL, Joint and Additional Commissioners of Police from different ranges, senior representatives of NIC, and officers associated with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems.
A representative from the Home Department, not below the rank of Deputy Secretary, will also be part of the committee, and the Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) will be the member secretary. The committee will meet monthly to discuss issues in forensic examination, share knowledge, and suggest ways of improving efficiency. Special attention will be paid to the functionality of the e-Forensic 2.0 system, which is on blockchain technology.
The committee will recommend regular debugging of the system and propose improvements to ensure smooth operation. Experts may also be co-opted as needed during deliberations.
Additionally, the Principal Secretary (Home) will conduct quarterly review meetings with Delhi Police and FSL to assess progress and address field-level interventions. These reviews aim to ensure the effectiveness of forensic practices and explore innovative solutions to challenges in this critical domain.
