Head Constable dies after being run over by train near Lodhi Colony

New Delhi: A 44-year-old head constable of the Delhi Police died after he was run over by a train while crossing the tracks near Lodhi Colony Railway station, police said on Monday.

The deceased leg was amputated during the incident. According to police, the incident took place on Sunday evening. The constable identified as Badri Prasad Meena was posted at District Investigation Unit (DIU) of South Delhi. He was living in Malviya Nagar area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Harendra K Singh told Millennium Post that they received a call around 8:32 pm on Sunday regarding the incident. The police staff reached that spot and found one body. Later the deceased was identified as Badri Prashad Meena.

"He was crossing track near Lodhi Colony railway station when he was run over by a train," said DCP Singh.

Singh further added that the deceased had injuries in face and limbs and one leg was amputated. According to police, he was doing his duty at IITF at Pragati Maidan on Sunday.

"The incident took place after he was returning from his duty," police said. The family members of the deceased were informed about the incident. "His body was shifted to Sabzi Mandi mortuary and after postmortem, it was handed over to the family," said police officer.

The deceased was native of Dausa in Rajasthan was informed. He was survived by wife, a son and two daughters.

Since 2016, as many as 1,464 bodies were found on the railway tracks in the National Capital.

According to Delhi Police data, in 2016 as many as 432 bodies were found whereas in 2017-345 bodies found across the railway tracks in Delhi.

Last year Delhi Police recovered 416 bodied whereas in the current year (till August 15) as many as 271 bodies were found.

"In some cases, mutilated bodies were found," said Delhi Police officer.
