Haryana Congress leader shot 10 times, dies
The incident took place when he was travelling in his car to a gym
Faridabad: With a clear objective to kill on the spot, fifteen rounds of gunshots were fired to murder Congress leader Vikas Chaudhary in a broad daylight in the busy strret of Sector-9 in Faridabad.
The incident occurred at around 9:04 am when Haryana Congress spokesperson, who was also heading the Faridabad Congress for the upcoming assembly elections in the city, came to PHC gym for his regular session of exercises. The incident took place when he was travelling in his Toyota Fortuner vehicle.
Knowing about his schedule pretty well, four men waiting in a Maruti SX4 were waiting in advance. The moment he could step out of his SUV, two men surrounded both sides of his vehicle and began firing gunshots indiscriminately.
Out of the fifteen rounds fires, most of the bullets pierced through the 42-year-old's body whereas four bullets hit the vehicle and one bullet missed the target.
After shooting their target, the attackers fled from the spot.
However, they made sure that before escaping, they ensured that some amount of damage should also be done to his Fortuner so that he cannot be taken to hospital in that vehicle. Some of the local residents in the area took injured Vikas Chaudhary to Sarvodaya hospital where he died during the treatment.
After confirming his death, his body was taken to Faridabad Government hospital for post mortem and was handed over to his family in the afternoon.
Already being criticised after the incident of a woman being stabbed on Wednesday by a stalker again on the busy streets. Senior police officials swung into action in launching their investigations in the case.
The law enforcement officials are now trying to retrieve the CCTV images that have captured the images of Chaudhary's murderers. The IT team of Faridabad police through the technology is also trying to ascertain how many mobile phones were active in that area at the time of the murder.
"Several police teams have been deployed to crack the case and Faridabad police is confident of detecting the criminals involved in the incident soon. The Commissioner of Police is personally supervising the investigation," said Navdeep Singh Virk Additional DGP (law and order).
"As per the leads so far, Vikas Chaudhary had a criminal background and 13 FIRs of extortion, kidnapping, attempt to murder etc were regd against him since 2007 in HY & UP. His murder appears to be connected to his own criminal background," the senior police further added.
Meanwhile, the brazen incident of murdering a Congress leader in the broad daylight drew sharp reaction with various citizens led by the Congress leaders criticising the poor state of law and order in the state.
"The death of Congress worker Vikas Chaudhary is condemnable. It reflects the worsening law and order situation in the state," said Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
