Gurugram's potholed roads worsen with incessant rains
Gurugram: MG road has contributed a great deal in giving Gurugram the label of Millennium City. However, various flaws in the city's infrastructure planning have resulted in moderate to heavy rains laying to waste Gurugram's roads.
The showers that lashed the city this week led to a spike in the number of complaints of potholes on roads – from New Gurugram to Old Gurugram's MG road.
The worse affected area is the Sukhrali stretch, where numerous potholes not only slow down the traffic, but also driving a perilous task, especially for two-wheelers riders.
Recently, two MNC executives died at Golf Course Road after they were traveling at a high speed and their bike hit a divider.
It may be noted that the stretch where the accident took place had potholes too.
Moving beyond Golf Course Road, towards the Old City, the condition of roads only gets from bad to worse.
One particular stretch around Sector Road is being dug up and has not been rectified even now by the civic agencies.
This is not for the first time that potholes have been reported at MG Road, the second busiest route in Gurugram after the Delhi-Jaipur highway.
What has angered residents and commuters, however, is that despite knowing the significance of this road, there have been no proactive steps taken to improve its condition.
"MG Road is just one of the various roads in Gurugram where planners have laid emphasis on increasing the lane space than providing the space for drainage. The problem with this flawed planning is that today, various stretches of MG Road are filled with potholes. In a major embarrassment, various stretches around MG Road have already caved in," said Sakshi Raina, a city resident
The significance of MG road in the National Capital Region can be gauged from the fact that not only does the road have residential neighbourhoods, plush shopping malls and MNC headquarters that are located, there are also over a lakh vehicles passing through the road on a daily basis.
