Gurugram: Five days after a mob attack in Bhoop Singh area near Bhondsi in Gurugram, the district police have begun to take stringent action against the culprits. As of now, five arrests have been made in the case. Interestingly, the profile of the accused who have been arrested in the case highlighted how the accused did not dither in indulging in the brazen act. Two people who have been arrested as of now have criminal past and have got various cases registered against them.
Among them, Sunil who belongs to Bhondsi village has even been to jail two times prior to the recent case in which he has been arrested. Sections under Indian Penal Code for which he has been tried are 188 (preventing civil servant from discharging the duty), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 174-A, 420 (theft) and fraud under 61-1-14 of the excise. He was arrested along with Dharmender who has been involved in the cases of violence like this before as cases under sections of 323 (causing voluntary hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC are already registered against him.
On March 24, the district police arrested two people namely and Amit. Dhirender runs his own dairy around the area where Mohammad Sajid and his family were beaten.
The first arrest made in the case two days after the incident was that of Mahesh who has been claimed to be the mastermind behind the vicious assault on the day of Holi. Even though he does not have any criminal background, it has come to the fore that Mahesh (20) dropped out of school in the eighth standard and was unemployed. A brother of four sisters, Mahesh had lost his father recently due to cardiac arrest and is living with his 55-year-old mother. Majority of the arrests have been made from the Naya Gaon. Being a Gujjar dominated area, the progress of the region can be gauged from the fact that for senior secondary the residents of the area have to rely on schools in Badshapur that is eight kilometres from the village. Meanwhile, after making sharp attacks on the government on the handling of the situation, various leaders of the political parties have now started visiting the victims.
