Gurugram district courts now plastic-free zone

Gurugram: The Millennium City may not have achieved its target of becoming a city completely free of plastics. However, it is a challenge which the district court and the Gurugram administration have taken and completed successfully.

After achieving the target of making the district courts free of plastic products, a target has been set for making two of the posh residential sectors Sector-14 and Sector-15 plastic free.

The Punjab and Haryana high court will be informed about the progress. Subsequently, this initiative will be taken to other residential sectors.

The public agencies have also roped in non-governmental organisations to spread the awareness.

There is a great challenge faced by the residents as the usage of plastic is not only choking the drains but also killing the bovine species in the city.

"It is sad that a city which respects its cows is allowing them to consume huge amounts of plastic that is littered in the garbage. Plastic is also the main reason why most of the drains are choked," said Raman Bhargava, a city resident.

In the past, public agencies in the City have been criticised by residents for not encouraging people to stop using plastic products.
