Greater Noida: Following a brawl between two different groups in the Jarcha village of Greater Noida on Wednesday morning, a 22-year-old man who was injured in the clash succumbed to his injuries in hospital while several others are still undergoing treatment.

Police said that two groups of people from the same village fired and pelted bricks at each other over a fight between children during a cricket match in Greater Noida late on Wednesday night.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Mohammad Rizwan, who had received a bullet injury in his head. He was among the five people who had suffered injuries during the clash. Other who received injuries are Naseem, Mohammad Arif, Waqil Khan and Umar Khan. They are undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

"Rizwan was shot in his head and he was admitted to district hospital in Dadri in a critical condition. Later, he was transferred to a Ghaziabad-based private hospital where he died late on Wednesday night during treatment," said Krishan Kumar Rana, Station House Officer of Jarcha Police Station.

On Wednesday morning, a police control room call about firing and stone pelting in Kalonda village was received. The police said that the fight began when one Iliyas, a native of Kalonda village, fired at Mohammad Abbas, another resident of the village. During the match, there was a quarrel between two of them leading to a clash between two groups where the attackers used country-made pistols to fire at each other and pelted stones which left five persons injured including one in a critical state.

After firing, both the groups assaulted each other with bricks and sticks. Based on the complaint filed by Mohammad Intezar, Rizwan's uncle, we have booked five persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code," said Rana.

An FIR has been registered based on a complaint by Rizwan's uncle and six persons were initially booked for attempt to murder and other sections of rioting.

"We have added section 302 of the IPC and teams have been formed to nab the accused as they are currently absconding," said Rana.
