Govt steps up measures to provide relief to victims of Delhi violence residing in camps

New Delhi: Owing to the heavy rainfall that hit the national Capital, the Delhi government stepped up its relief measures by giving 500 beds to the Eidgah relief camp in Mustafabad for the riot-affected people in north-east Delhi. 20 Delhi police personnel have also been deployed for round the clock protection along with civil defence security.

An official in the Delhi government said: "People were earlier sleeping on mats on the floor but now there are proper beds. When it started pouring it became difficult for people to sleep on mats. We are making further arrangements keeping the weather and other circumstances in mind."

The official added: "There are constant assessment and reviews taking place regarding the requirements at the camp and how the government can fulfil it." the official added. "We the volunteers update officials about the problems people are facing in the camp and they work on it regularly," said a volunteer at Eidgah.

Four new toilets arrived on Friday to meet the demand of the people. There are now eight toilets in total – four for men and four for women.

Bathing arrangements have also been made near the back entrance of the camp. Locals have also opened their

homes for use by the riot victims. The police personnel are working in two batches with 20 personnel in each group.
