Gone too soon: 2 youngsters killed after their car rams into divider

New Delhi: Two persons including a woman were killed and as many injured after the car they were travelling in rammed into a road divider in Shahdara's Vivek Vihar in the early hours of Sunday.

The four occupants in the car were identified as Keshav, 21, a resident of Kamla Nagar, Prabhjot Singh, 18, from Malka Ganj, Arshpreet, 19, from Haryana's Sirsa, and Rubal, 20. "Prabhjot Singh and Rubal were declared brought dead," police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said that around 5:40 am on Sunday morning, a PCR call regarding an accident was received at Vivek Vihar police station.

On receiving the same, the police staff reached the spot which was near Surya Nagar Red Light and came to know that the injured persons were reported to have been taken to GTB hospital for their treatment and car bearing Delhi number plate- white Honda City was found in damaged condition at the spot.

"A light pole and railings were also found in uprooted from divider of the road. It seems that the damaged car got collided with the light pole and railings. Thereafter the place of incident was got inspected and photographed by the crime team," said DCP Shahdara.

She further added that the police staff reached the hospital where they learnt that two of the four injured were declared brought dead. Other facts are being verified. Police are checking the CCTV footage of the area to ascertain the sequence of events.

DCP Meghna Yadav further said that there was no clarity that from where the four persons were coming and where they were going.

"How the incident happened is yet to ascertained. There is a possibility that the vehicle was being driven at high speed and the driver was unable to control the car. Although after we complete the probe, things will be clear," police said.

Another angle which is being probed is of the joyride. When asked whether the car been driven on the influence of liquor DCP said she had no idea.
