Go FASTag in Gurugram, but pay double

Gurugram: Not only commuters from Gurugram, but also thousands of travellers from Delhi and other neighbouring regions face snarls at the toll plazas of Kherki Dhaula, and Bandhwari. The FASTag system that is going to be introduced in the toll plazas throughout the country is expected to deal with the challenge, but one will have to pay higher rates.

FASTag is a sticker that has to be put at the front windshield of your vehicle. This sticker becomes the radio frequency identity of your car, which is automatically read by the sensors placed at the toll plazas. This sticker is either linked to a prepaid account like Paytm or through a bank account. The amount is deducted automatically whenever your vehicle crosses any toll plaza, which is RFID-enabled. But, it is important to note here that the commuters who come into the lane of FASTag will have to pay double the amount of the toll that is being paid by commuters who pay in cash.

However, prior to the implementation, there seems to be a widescale chaos that is being witnessed at the toll plazas of Gurugram. The trial runs which have been conducted at the Kherki Dhaula have not yielded the desired results, and on most occasions, the officials had to cancel the trials because of the humungous traffic snarl.

The officials have, however, expressed optimism that increased awareness about the new process will result in reducing the chaos that is being witnessed at the trials. It is important to note that there is one lane that has been left for the commuters who want to pay in cash "For commuters who are using the tolls daily, a sound advice for them would be that they get the FASTag installed immediately. We are leaving one lane vacant for the commuters who want to pay the toll by cash, however, there is going to be a lot of rush in that lane," said VK Sharma, an NHAI official.
