Girl who escaped captivity narrates her ordeal to JSCPCR

New Delhi/ranchi: A girl who escaped forced labour from west Delhi – where she had to work as a maid – met members of the Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (JSCPCR) on Saturday and revealed the trauma she faced, after she was trafficked to Delhi in October last year.

The case of the girl, who belongs to Ratu in Ranchi, highlighted how traffickers target children who have disagreements with their families.

Aarti Kujur, chairperson, JSCPCR, told Millennium Post that the girl's parents are labourers and one day she ran away after they scolded her.

"The girl went to the house of one of the traffickers, whom she used to call uncle, and told him the incident. Finding it to be a good opportunity, the accused told her that if she came with him to the urban area in Jharkhand, he could get her a good job.

"She agreed and she was taken to another area, where she was kept for three days with a woman who then took her to Delhi," said Kujur.

The girl said she wanted to go home, but the woman started beating her and threatened her with dire consequences.

The girl was soon sent to west Delhi, and forced to work as a domestic help. There, her employer used to beat her and the woman trafficker took her wages from the employer and kept it to herself.

The girl told Kujur that last week, she ran away with some other girls. "She went to the terrace of the building and climbing down the iron grill, she got out," said Kujur.

The girl then reached a railway station in Delhi, where she faced more trouble.

"The girl asked a person about the duration of Jharkhand trains. The man told her that he will help her in getting tickets and took the money from her, which she had got from a person who helped him during the rescue. The man fled with the money after guiding her to a wrong train," said a member of the Commission.

After the train reached Allahabad, the girl asked another passenger about the time of arrival to Jharkhand, who told her that it was the wrong train. From there, the girl took another train and she finally reached Jharkhand.

"Now we are seeing the trend that cases of traffickers are targeting West Singhbhum, Sahibganj, Godda areas of Jharkhand," said Rishi Kant, from NGO Shaktivahini.
