Girl drowns in open tanker

A three-year-old girl died after she fell into an open underground tanker belonging to her neighbour in South East Delhi's Tigri JJ colony on Sunday.
The police had received information from Batra hospital in the afternoon. and her body has been handed over to the mortuary for postmortem.
The police have registered the case after it was found that the underground water tanker belonged to her neighbour.
The girl has been identified as Alifa, who stays with her family in Sangam Vihar area. According to police, her father, Asif works as a milkman in the area. The girl had visited her grandmother living in JJ colony, Tigri over the past few days.
"Her grandmother was not at the house during the time of the incident. The girl was playing inside the house and later decided to step out. While she was playing outside, she fell into the water tank and drowned," said a police official.
When her relatives had returned they found that the girl was missing. They searched around the vicinity for some hours after which residents of the area also joined in the search.
Towards the evening, one of them glanced into the open water tank and found the girl inside.
After raising an alarm, the residents rushed to save the girl. Once she was fished out of the water tank, she was not breathing. The residents rushed her to Batra hospital where she was declared brought dead on arrival.
"After they admitted her to the hospital the police was informed around 2:55 pm. We were told by the doctors that she died due to drowning and was declared brought dead by the hospital," the official said.
When the police was investigating the case, they found that the water tank belonged to a neighbour and later registered the case at Sangam Vihar police station.
"A case has been registered under section 304A IPC. Her body will be handed over to the family after post mortem," added the official.
