Ghaziabad : In a tragic incident, four persons including a woman and three children were burnt to death in a fire that broke out at a three-storey house in Loni area of Ghaziabad on early Sunday morning.

According to police, the deceased were identified asGulbahar (32), Mohd Shan (8), Mohd Zeeshan (7), and Mohd Ayan (4). Jaan (4) and Ayesha (30) sustained severe burns injuries.

The fire broke out around 6 am, on the second floor of a house in Kanchan Park area owned by Mohd Shahnawaz, who works as a tailor. Locals said that Shahnawaz and his brother Shamshad, originally from Mawana in Meerut, have been residing in the locality for nearly past three decades.

Shahnawaz’s wife Gulbahar and two children, Zeeshan and Ayan perished in the fire while one of Shamshad’s son, Mohd Shaan succumbed in the fire.

Local residents gathered upon hearing the commotion and assisted the family in dousing the flames with water. Police and fire department were subsequently alerted. Upon arrival, they commenced firefighting operations. After nearly an hour, they contained the blaze and rescued the trapped occupants.

“A fire suddenly ignited on the second floor of the house and thd smoke rapidly engulfed the entire house. Some of the house members rescued themselves by climbing on the neighor’s roof,” said Rahul Pal, Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Ghaziabad. The CFO further said that it was hard to enter house and douse fire. “The fire fighting teams reached the third floor from the neighboring house. The people trapped in the house were rescued by breaking the wall and taken to the hospital. In the preliminary investigation, the cause of the fire is believed to be short circuit,” the CFO added.

Earlier in June 2024, three persons, including a woman and her two daughters, were charred to death after their house caught fire due to domestic gas cylinder blast in Loni area of Ghaziabad. There were seven members of the family present inside an under-construction house which caught fire rapidly following the cylinder blast.
