Gurugram: Thunderstorms and rains are likely to hit at least 13 states and two Union Territories on Monday, the Union Home Ministry said in an advisory issued on Sunday, as a result of which schools in Haryana have been asked to remain closed for the next two days.
The order will also be applicable for the schools in Gurugram.
On Sunday morning, the Home Ministry – quoting the India Meteorological Department – said that Delhi and its adjoining areas, as well as parts of western Uttar Pradesh, are likely to see thunderstorms and rain for about two hours.
The Ministry alert comes after 124 people died and over more than 300 were injured in thunderstorms and lightning, that hit five states last week.
Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma directed all schools to remain closed on Monday and Tuesday, in the wake of the thunderstorm and rain warning issued by the Met Department on Sunday.
A thunderstorm, accompanied with squall and hail, is very likely at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Thunderstorm, accompanied with gusty winds, have also been predicted for Monday at isolated places in Uttarakhand and Punjab
