Ggn school buses directed to cover windows with grills

Gurugram: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of Gurugram has directed all the schools buses in the city to cover their windows with grills for the protection of the school children. The order has come after the miscreants who were protesting against release of film Padmavat had attacked private school bus carrying school children and broke its window panes on January 24.
To ensure safety of their schoolchildren, most of the private schools in Delhi–NCR have bought their own school buses which are laced with fog lights, speed governors and even closed circuit television cameras. There are however many buses that are not following the safety norms in order to save the cost. A 37 seater bus costs around Rs 16 lakh.
In the past, campaign was launched by RTA for safe transportation of school students, but now it seems to have lost steam as students continue to be ferried in an unsafe manner. The key parameters of the directives were identification of the school transport vehicle through yellow and blue paint, installation of speed governors and CCTV cameras and not filling the vehicle with students beyond capacity.
Parents are forced to take the services of private transport like cabs and auto for their children, as most of the private schools charge an exorbitant sum for transportation. Even after the announcement by the public agency to rein in the modes of transport, school students continue to be crammed beyond capacity.
