Ggn denizens blame poor roads for daily tryst with traffic snarls

The Millennium City is undergoing major developments to bring out sea changes for its residents.

But, today's pain, tomorrow's gain is not going down too well with the commuters.

Complaints of over traffic congestion by commuters and citizens of Gurugram are on a rise. Not only are new areas of Gurugram but also the old and internal parts of the city reel under heavy traffic congestion.

Though authorities claim that the major traffic bottlenecks are caused due to various construction activities happening in the city, complainants highlight that there are various other factors leading to the car-packed street scenario.

The poor condition of city roads, poor traffic signals, blockages of u-turns and illegal parking are some of the major grouses, echo the commuters.

According to the city cops, there is action being taken to improve the worsening traffic situation in the country.

"The complaints of traffic bottlenecks continue to rise," said a cop source.

"It is definitely not a pleasant experience while driving in Gurugram. Today the two most prominent routes in the city that is the NH-8 and MG road continue to be a nightmare for commuters.

While a lot of construction activities in NH-8 continue to be a major reason for the slow traffic situation is worse in MG road with no control over ever rising vehicular traffic on the road.

The situation seems to turn worse in the internal and older parts of the city with the poor condition of roads and construction works that continue to be delayed," said Amitabh Rai, a resident of Gurugram.

He also added that though plans have been rolled out to seize the traffic, no action has been taken against the traffic violators.

"There continues t be illegal parking across various areas in the city. Further, most of the commuters do not want to follow the basic rules of traffic," added Rai. Taking into cognisance of better management of traffic in the city, the Haryana Government has approved the addition of more than 500 officers in Gurugram traffic Police.

"One reason why there are rising complaints about poor management is that over the years there has been an exponential rise in vehicles in Gurugram.

We have now increased our staff and will deploy it in major intersections for better management," said a top official from Gurugram traffic police.
