Ggm: BJP wins three seats comfortably

Gurugram: The voters of Gururgam continued their support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Even though it lost Badshahpur which is the biggest seat in Gurugram Vidhan Sabha, it was able to win the other three seats in Gurugram, Pataudi, and Sohna with convincing margins.

The BJP had won all four seats in 2014 but this time it was able to get one seat less. In an interesting trend, the Indian National Congress (INC) that gave BJP a tough fight in other parts of Haryana could not match up to it at least in Gurugram Vidhan sabha.

In this constituency, space was filled up by the independents who not only gave the candidates a run for its money but in the case of Badhshpur also resulting in the defeat of one of its nominees.

In Gururgam urban area, Sudhir Singla who was fighting his first election won with a margin of 33,000 votes over his competitor Mohit Grover who fought an independent. While Singla obtained a voting percentage of 43, Grover could only obtain a voting percentage of 25. Sukhbir Kataria of Congress came a distant third with 12 percent vote share.

The delight of Gurugram seat could not be replicated in Badhahpur where Rakesh Daultabad an independent candidate won over BJP's Manish Yadav with a margin of 10,187 votes.

While Rakesh had a voting percentage of 47 percent, Manish Yadav could also obtain a voting percentage of 42.

The seat was considered to be significant as the BJP had replaced Rao Narbir Singh who was a Cabinet Minister in the former government from this seat.

Interestingly his brother Rao Kamabir Singh who contested on the INC ticket came a distant third with only four percent vote.

In Sohna, Sanjay Singh won over JanNayak Janata Party's Rohtas Khatana with over 12,000 seats. With assets of over Rs 300 crore, Rohtas Singh was the richest candidate in the Haryana assembly elections.

In Pataudi, the smallest seat in Gururgam Vidhan Sabha BJP's Satya Prakash Jarawata won over Independent Narhari Singh by a margin of over 36,000 votes.
