GDA seals 64 illegally constructed buildings

Ghaziabad: Tightening the noose on illegal and unauthorised constructions in the district, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) on Monday sealed 64 multi-storey buildings that were constructed by illegally flouting the building by-laws.

The action was taken after irregularities were reported from various under-construction buildings across the district. GDA vice-chairperson Ritu Maheshwari initiated the action and teams were formed to carry out the sealing drive in all eight zones of the district falling under GDA.

"Many of these sealed buildings were served prior notices, but they failed to get the map approval done and continued the construction work illegally. As they failed to act on the notices, the Authority sealed the complexes. We will make sure that the sealing drive is continued in future as well. We have also asked the labourers working at the site to shift to some other place as a precautionary measure," said a senior GDA official.

Talking about the sealing drive, the officer said that multiple teams have been formed for the drive and have been assigned with region-wise responsibilities. A blueprint of the sealing drive has been prepared and the teams have been given the targets.

The officer further said that they have sealed two buildings in zone-1, four buildings in zone 2, six in zone 3, 7 buildings in zone 4, six buildings in zone 5, 11 buildings in zone 6, six buildings in zone 7 and 22 buildings in zone 8.
