GDA demolishes seven illegal buildings

Ghaziabad: Continuing their drive on the second day of a four-day campaign to bring down structures constructed without approval, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), on Thursday, demolished 7 illegal buildings in the city. "The demolition drive was successfully carried on the second day as well and we managed to bring down seven illegal buildings across four police stations in the city," said V K Singh, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the GDA.

The areas where demolitions were carried out are Masuri, Indirapuram, Sahibabad and Tronic city areas. "The drive was carried across the areas falling under six different police stations in the city. However due to non-presence of adequate police force with us, the drive could not be carried down in two areas," a senior official of GDA said.

The GDA has set a target to demolish around 300 illegal structures through the month. In first phase, the authority will raze 253 buildings across the city. The drive will continue till August 4 and resume for 14 days from August 13, barring leaves and holidays. The GDA on Thursday also sealed 2 illegal and dilapidated buildings, taking the total to 401. This has been the largest and quickest actions against illegal constructions by GDA.
