Gambling den busted in Noida
Noida: Two persons were arrested by Noida sector 20 police for running an online gambling racket from sector 1 area of Noida on late Saturday night. Police have seized Rs 1,20,000 in cash, mobile phones and few coupons from possession of accused persons.
According to police, the police had received a tip-off about a gang operating from a rented accommodation in sector 1 area. A team from Sector 20 police station conducted a surprise check at the premises and arrested both the accused noting down bets. The arrested accused were identified as kingpin Iftikaar, a native of Sikandrabad area in Bulandshahr and Ateek from Faridabad area in Haryana. Police said that the gang used to operate gambling through WhatsApp.
"During interrogations, it came to light that the gang used to connect people living in other towns and cities like Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Delhi, among others through WhatsApp and had created various WhatsApp groups. The betting was played on these groups only while the results were declared in four different ways daily, depending on the places like Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gali and Dishawar. A person would raise his bet on any number while he will get Rs 900 if he spend Rs 10 and wins," said Manoj Pant, Station house officer of sector 20 police station. A case under section 3/4 of the Gambling Act was filed against the accused. "They were produced in court and sent to judicial custody," said police.
Police have seized Rs 1,20,000 in cash, Whatsapp chats, coupons, mobile phones and few diaries from their possession.
