French national duped of 47K euro by men posing police

NEW DELHI: A French national was duped of his belongings by three people who posed as police personnel and frisked him in Karol Bagh area of central district.

According to the officials, Yousef was stopped by the accused and searched on Sunday when he reached Karol Bagh. Police said a case has been registered and the matter is being investigated.

Footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area is being examined to identify the perpetrators, a senior police officer said.

"Yousef (45) came to India to buy bridal dresses and was staying in a hotel, while on his way back to the hotel. At Channa market road three persons in a swift desire car claimed themselves to be police officers asked them to get them searched and frisked since they suspected them carrying drugs, checked their passports and took out money amount rupees 47,000 Euros from the purse. and vanished in their car," DCP Central Delhi, MS Randhawa said.

A case under Section 419/420 and 34 of the IPC has been registered. A police team has been formed to crack the case. In the past, too, incidences where the cheats have duped people telling them to be either CBI or plain clothes policemen have been reported.
