Fraudster escaped from immigration staff custody arrested
New Delhi: A 35-year-old fraudster who escaped from the custody of immigration staff of Mumbai Airport was arrested by IGI police.
The investigating agency said that the accused and his gang has cheated more than 50 passengers on the pretext of providing visa.
Police identified the accused as Santosh Bhagwan Behera, a native of Mumbai.
On January 30, a complaint from airlines was received regarding the apprehension of a person named Shamu, who was intended to travel to Poland by flight through fake Poland visa. "Shamu disclosed that he along with five more Passengers came into contact with Santosh Bhagwan Behera and one Mahesh Ramchander Lokhande through one Ranjeet Kumar Mukherjee. After taking the money they were given fake Poland visa by them," police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Sanjay Bhatia said that after getting some clues, LOC of Santosh Bhagwan Behera and Mahesh Ramchander Lokhande was opened.
On August 2 he was apprehended by immigration staff of Mumbai Airport, but he managed to escape from the custody of immigration staff of Mumbai Airport. "Finally, on August 16, Santosh Bhagwan Behera was arrested from Mumbai by the team of IGI Airport Police Station. During interrogation, Behera confessed to his involvements. His father is a retired army personnel," DCP IGI.
