Four-year-old raped on pretext of showing her TV programme

Gurugram: The vulnerability of minors in Gurugram has been exposed again after a four-year-old was raped in the city. The incident occurred in Sector-18 area. The rape survivor's family belongs to Madhya Pradesh and works as sweepers in a building.

In the complaint registered by the family, they have mentioned that the act was committed by a person who resides in the same building. On the pretext of showing the minor a television show, the youth apparently called her to his room and raped her. The Gurgram police has registered the case under Section-6 of POSCO Act and apprehended the youth.

Gurugram along with its counterpart Faridabad is leading in terms of sexual crimes against minors. In 2017 there were 106 cases of sexual crimes against minors while in 2016 there were 115.

Not only sexual crimes but the law enforcement officials also have to deal with increased cases of human trafficking. In 2017, 154 minors were kidnapped from the city out of which 115 were girls. In the period of 2012 to 2017 over 1,062 children have been kidnapped out of which 677 are girls. The gangs from neighbouring states are highly active in committing such crimes.
