Four women among five Kashmiris thrashed in south east Delhi

New Delhi: Five Kashmiris including four women were brutally thrashed by a group of people with sticks in South-East Delhi's Sunlight Colony on Thursday night. Delhi Police have started an investigation into the assault case.
The incident came to light after a video of the assault went viral in which a woman is seen crying and her request for help could be heard as a group of men use abusive language and stand there with sticks.
The Kashmiris have been staying in Siddhartha Extension, Kilokari in Sunlight Colony for long and said they have kept some dogs and also fee some stray dogs as well. This, they said, was used as a pretext to thrash them brutally by some people in the Colony. "Actually, we complained about these people for encroachment, since then they kept an eye on us and were seeking a pretext to attack us. We were brutally assaulted by sticks by a group of 30 to 40 people." said a woman victim.
On Thursday night at around 11 pm the three Kashmiri women hosted their brother's fiancee who is an Iranian national and were out for a walk but suddenly a group of men from the Colony attacked them accusing them of feeding stray dogs. "They used our stray dog feeding as a pretext to attack us. We expected this and have already complained about a possible attack with the concerned senior police officers, but nothing came out. On Thursday we were mercilessly beaten." said the lady Kashmiri victim.
Police said an investigation was underway and would act according to the complaint given to them. "We are taking legal action on the complaint that we received in the Sunlight Colony matter. We will act according to the complaint," said Chinmoy Biswal, DCP South East.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Omar Abdullah asked Home Minister Rajnath Singh to get the matter investigated urgently and bring the guilty to book. "Kashmiris are blamed for feeling alienated and acting on those feelings, but what do you expect when they see other Kashmiris treated like this in the national Capital?" he tweeted.
