Forced closure of meat shops: Ggn DC warns rogue elements
Gurugram: Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram Vinay Pratap Singh on Thursday issued a stern warning to rogue elements that are forcibly closing down meat shops on the pretext of religious occasion, saying that if anyone caught indulging in such acts will be dealt with strictly as per law.
His statement comes at a time when the district administration is facing criticism over its soft approach to right wing groups telling meat shops to close down during Navratri.
Over 400 meat shops have reportedly been closed down in Gurugram, with the local unit of Shiv Sena has demanded closure of all meat shops during Navaratri. It also threatened to forcibly shut them down if they don't do it on their own.
"We have requested every meat shop owner to close their outlets. Sixty shops were shut. If the remaining 940 shops remain open, we will have no option but to forcefully shut them down as we have done in a previous couple of years," Shiv Sena in-charge for Gurugram Sanjay Thakral said.
An FIR has been registered regarding one incident where a meat shop was forced to shut down.
