Five-yr-old girl sexually assaulted by cab driver

New Delhi: A five-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a private van cab driver in Shahbad Dairy area of Rohini. Hearing the trauma that his daughter was facing, the parents immediately rushed to the police station following which a case was registered. During the investigation, the accused was arrested. Police claimed that the accused used to touch her inappropriately in the cab who took children to school. The investigating agency is also scanning whether the accused had earlier harrashed other kids in the cab. Police claimed that they have arrested the accused in this regard. Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has sent notice to different agencies regarding the crime and sought action taken a report in the matter.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta confirmed the incident and stated that they took action in the case and arrested the accused. "The further probe is going on," added the DCP. According to police, the accused has been identified as 39-year-old Suresh, who works as cab driver. On Monday, the girl did not wanted to go to the school. When her mother asked about the reason, she claimed that the van driver does "bad things" to her.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the DCPCR sent notices to Child Welfare Committee, Delhi Police and Deputy Director of Education. The notice claimed that the commission wants a detailed action taken/ status report on the incident before October 31. Jyoti Duhan Rathee, member DCPCR stated that they inspected several schools in the past. In some educational institute they have found that the proper database of the cab drivers was not maintained. The Commission had also written to the concerned department regarding this. Delhi Police data states that till April 15 this year, 244 cases of rape with the POCSO Act were registered with cops.
