Five-yr-old girl mowed down in Ashok Nagar
New Delhi: A five-year-old girl died, while her aunt and the woman's son sustained grievous injuries after a car hit them in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar area on Friday night.
Delhi Police on Saturday said they have arrested the accused Naveen, who is a 27-year-old property dealer.
According to police, the deceased girl has been identified as Sandhya, a resident of east Delhi.
On Friday night, Sandhya, along with her aunt Lekha Bharti (24) and cousin Naitik, also five years old, had gone to a nearby medical store and were walking back home in old Kondli area.
Police said that they received a police control room call around 8.30 pm on Friday about the accident. The three were taken to a nearby hospital.
"Sandhya was declared brought dead at the hospital, while her aunt and cousin have been referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Gospital. The boy is critical and his mother is said to be out of danger now. A case of causing death due to negligence under section 304A of the Indian Penal Code and for rash driving has been registered against Sharma, and he has been arrested," police said on Saturday.
Cops further said they sent the girl's body for post-mortem examination, after which it was handed over to the family members on Saturday. Meanwhile, the offending vehicle has been seized.
Sources said that Sandhya had come to Delhi around two weeks ago and was living with her aunt and uncle at their residence in Sultanpur. The girl's father works as a contractual labourer.
