Five nabbed for involvement in over a dozen robberies
New Delhi: Delhi Police on Wednesday said they have arrested a gang of five men involved in dozens of robberies and recovered cash worth Rs four lakh, as well as seven scooties and motorcycles from their possession.
Cops said that on August 11, a businessman's car was intercepted by two bike-borne assailants at Guru Angad Nagar and he was robbed of around Rs nine lakh at gunpoint.
A case was registered and police analysed footage of around 200 CCTV cameras along the route taken by the complainant to get clues.
It came to light that two youth had conducted a recce of the complainant's shop on the evening of August 11, and then followed his car on a blue-coloured scooty. The scooty was later joined by four men on two bikes, who looted the victim.
Soon, the youth riding the scooty was identified as Mohammad Taj, who was apprehended and questioned. Based on his inputs, two more accused, including the kingpin, were also apprehended.
"The accused not only confessed to their involved in this crime, but also disclosed that they were also involved in over a dozen cases of robbery and motor-vehicle thefts," said Pankaj Singh, DCP East.
