Fire in Narela area leaves woman, daughter dead

New Delhi: Just two days after her brother was married, a woman and her daughter died in a fire in Narela area of Outer Delhi on Tuesday morning. Two other persons were also injured as the incident happened when the family members were sleeping.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Parminder Kaur (45) and her daughter Harinder Kaur (15) who lived on the second floor of the house in Narela area. The injured victims were identified as Gurmeet (50) and two-and-half-years-old Jaspreet who are reported to be stable.
Police official told Millennium Post that more than 10 relatives including the owner of the building were there at the time of the incident but they rescued themselves.
Fire official claimed that they received a call around 7 am after which 11 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was doused by around 10 am. From the three-story house they took out four persons and they were rushed to the hospital. The fire started from ground floor which was a mattress godown owned by the landlord who lived with his family on the first floor. The victim's family was living on the second floor.
Police sources said that at the time of the incident, many deceased's relatives were sleeping as they had come to attend the Parminder's brother wedding in Narela area. "They saw the smoke and they rushed to the ground in order to save themselves. Deceased's husband noticed that his wife and child was not there. A PCR call was made and the fire department also rushed to the spot," said a police official.
Police official further stated that they died due to suffocation after the smoke entered the house as soon fire started. They might not have got any time to save themselves. "Smoke might have entered the body of the deceased and they were unable to alert anyone about their presence," said police official. The exact cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
