NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, North West Delhi Police has arrested two persons who were running a fake pathology laboratory in the city and would furnish fake test reports of samples collected from unsuspecting people.
Police said on Friday the Ajay Yadav, 31, and Sanjay Yadav, 24, both residents of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested.
On April 17, a PCR call was received at Mahendra Park police station regarding abduction of one Sanjay Yadav by an imposter posing himself to be a CBI official.
During enquiry, it was revealed that the caller worked as a technician at the pathology lab located in Adarsh Nagar, which was owned by Ajay Yadav and managed by his relative Sanjay Yadav.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Aslam Khan said on Thursday, "During investigation of this case, it was revealed that this lab is taking samples through courier services from different labs in Delhi and many other States. The condition of the lab was found to be very pathetic and unhygienic and it was being run in a small room, where there was no infrastructure or equipment for examination of any kind of samples."
"During search of the room, several reports were found and these reports had digital signatures of various doctors, whose identity could not be verified," she further said.
Further enquiry revealed that the facility and the proprietors were not registered either with Medical Council of India or Delhi Medical Council.
It then came to light that Ajay Yadav had worked with various path labs in Uttar Pradesh as an assistant and a courier boy. During that times, he gained a lot of knowledge about the tests and got well-versed about the format of various tests and reports.
Further investigation revealed that he soon opened his own office, by the name of Unicare Path Solutions Pvt Ltd, in 2017, with the website www.unicarepath.com.
The website showed that the the lab has been conducting more than 2,500 different medical tests.
The accused, through their lab, have issued over 23,000 fake reports in the last year from their office under the digital signatures of some unlicensed doctors, whose identity was not known to the accused.
