Keeping a close tab on demonetisation and its effects, criminals are developing new strategies to stay in the market and earn maximum profits. Gone are those days when criminals involved in the counterfeit currency rackets printed notes in Rs 2,000 or 500 denominations.
Rather, they have now shifted focus on printing lower denomination notes. The modus operandi came to light when the Special Cell caught two with FICN currency worth Rs 6 lakh in Rs 100 notes.
When the Delhi Police team caught Sanjeev and Arvin, both from western Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, they got to know that the fake Rs 100 notes are in the trend these days.
"We have recovered Rs 6 lakh in Rs 100 notes from these persons as post demonetisation, the government has promoted the use of Rs 100 notes. Thus, the ones dealing in fake notes, though this to be more profitable," said DCP Special Cell, Sanjeev Yadav.
The recovered FICN is of such fine quality that every person having criminal instincts and bent of mind to earn easy money, become magnetised and opted to indulge themselves into this illegal trade.
Police said that they disclosed to have supplied several consignments so far to several states and charged Rs 40,000 genuine currency for Rs 1,00,000 FICN.
Both the arrested indulged in circulation of the FICN which they received from Eastern UP-based sources and supplied it to prospective buyers of different states, particularly within different districts of UP and in the NCR region. The police interrogation has clearly indicated that the Eastern UP-based sources procured the FICN from Nepal which actually come from Pakistan.
Cops say that the supply of FICN has significantly increased in the past two to three months in the areas of UP.
