Fake LIC agents dupe man of Rs 8 lakh in Gurugram

Gurugram: A man in Madanpuri area of Old Gurugram was duped of Rs eight lakh by three cheats posing as LIC agents.

Police on Wednesday said that the victim, in his complaint, said the accused had called him around two months ago and offered him an insurance from LIC.

After he agreed, the three men visited his house and got his signatures on some documents, later found to be counterfeit.

Months later, the man found that he received no returns on his investment and later found that Rs eight lakh had been illegally withdrawn from his account.

Police have registered a case under sections of 406 (breach of trust) and 424 (fraud) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case one among many cases of people being duped where the accused pose as financial professionals and dupe victims by obtaining their financial information.

On an average, over 20 cases are registered every month in various police stations of Gurugram.

Taking cognisance of this major law and order challenge, Gurugram Police have been issuing guidelines to the public over not falling into the trap of such fake agents.

Various fake call centers in and around Gurugram have also been busted from where such calls are made.
