Fake degree racket: Accused posed as NRIs to cheat banks

New Delhi: The gang had cheated the bank for the opening of the account claiming themselves as NRI, it was revealed in the investigation of fake websites case related to educational boards and selling forged mark sheets which were busted by West Delhi Police and they have arrested three men.
Police sources claimed that during the interrogation of the accused they came to know that they were having 30 bank accounts and they have also found for the opening of an account in some banks they posed themselves as an NRI. Sources further claimed that when the police team reached different banks regarding the cases bank officials claimed that the accused told themselves as resident Canada or another country. Sources claimed that they posed as NRIs to escape from physical verification conducted by the bank
Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vijay Kumar told Millennium Post that they are making all possible efforts to arrest the remaining accused in the case.
Sources further claimed that some of the persons whom they have cheated some time raised the doubt on the certificate provided to them for which the accused told them that they can verify the certificate through the address which was given in the fake websites of the particular board.
"The accused had made the website in such a manner that the fake website of any education came first and the original one remains in the second search option so the victims easily fell prey to the tactics and opened the fake website and there they saw an address from where the mark sheet can be verified," said a police source. The address was of Himachal Pradesh where the certificate was sent through and after few days the certificate with a verification was delivered to the home of the person who was cheated.
Police on Monday claimed that they have arrested three persons from different States for running the fake business. During interrogation accused persons claimed that in order to convince their clients, they had prepared fake websites of the concerned universities and school boards and they are so convincing that victims cannot tell the difference between the genuine and the fake websites.
The team who made the arrest was led by Inspector Vijender Singh (SHO-Hari Nagar), SI Vikas, SI Sudhir. ACP-Rajouri Garden, K S N Subudhi was monitoring the probe.
