Fake currency notes again flushed into India via Bangladesh, 2 held

NEW DELHI: Fine quality Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) has been seized by Delhi Police special cell when a team of Northern Range, Special Cell, arrested two key members of an international FICN racket. They have been identified as Praveen, a resident of East Champaran, Bihar, presently residing at Vijay Enclave in Delhi and Sonu Chaudhary (25), from West Champaran, Bihar.

Fake Indian currency notes amounting to Rs 5 lakh in the denomination of Rs 2,000, have been recovered from the possession of the arrested persons. The recovered FICN appears to have been printed in a sophisticated printing unit.

Police received information that for last about six months the circulation of FICN has been revived by the members of an International syndicate after demonetization. A police team was deputed to develop the information. Both human and technical surveillance was mounted on the movements of suspected members of this syndicate. During surveillance, it was revealed that FICN is being brought to India through Bangladesh and Nepal. It is being smuggled into Malda, West Bengal, through Indo-Bangladesh Border and also in bordering districts of Bihar through Indo-Nepal border by anti-national elements.

On June 23, specific information was received by Special Cell that a key member of the said syndicate would come near Sector-2, Rohini, to deliver a big consignment of FICN to his contact. A trap was laid that resulted in the arrest of the accused with high-quality FICN amounting to Rs 4 lakh. Praveen disclosed that he procured FICN from Sonu to circulate it in the busy markets of Delhi.

"On June 27, after an extensive search and at the instance of accused Praveen, Sonu was also arrested from West Champaran. High-quality FICN amounting to Rs 1 lakh was recovered from his house. He also disclosed that he used to receive the supply of FICN from Bangladesh via Nepal where it is smuggled from Pakistan," said Sanjeev Yadav, DCP Special Cell.
