Ex-director of economics and statistics dept of UP govt, his wife & son booked in dowry case

Ghaziabad: Three persons including the former director of economics and statistics department of UP government have been booked by Ghaziabad police over the allegations made by wife of director's son of demanding dowry and trying to kill her for not fulfilling the demands. The FIR names the director, his wife and son.

As per the complaint given to police by the victim, she was married to director's son on December 25, 2016 and her parents have gifted an audi car along with marriage expenses worth Rs 84 lakh.

The victim alleged that initially things were good after marriage but later her in-laws started demanding Rs 10 lakhs more and a luxury car as dowry.

"My father is already under huge debt because of marriage expenses but even then also he took loan and gave my in-laws a Maruti swift car in order to fulfil their demands. However, they thrash me over pity issues and demand Rs 10 lakh cash. My husband is jobless and an alcoholic person and he used to force me to make physical relations with him after he comes home drunk. In 2017, when I got pregnant my in-laws gave me some abortion pills and also took me to a hospital and forcefully made an abortion and killed my child," the victim said in her complaint.

She also alleged that on November 24, 2019 her in-laws thrashed her badly and also tried to strangle her. Somehow she managed to escape and went back to her home. Meanwhile, police have registered a case under IPC section 354 (molestation), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of IPC and relevant section of Dowry act against three persons.

"Based on the complaint received, an FIR has been registered. As of now we have not made any arrest but investigations are underway and arrests will be made soon," said Gajender Kumar Singh, Station House officer of Sihani gate police.
