Enough power available to meet peak demand for winter: Tata Power DDL

NEW DELHI: Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd on Friday said it has nearly 1,650 mega watt of power available from long term sources, which will help meet the peak power demand this winter effectively, which is expected to touch 1,500 MW.

"For contingency requirements, Tata Power would purchase power from the short term exchange, based on its day ahead requirements. However, no shortfall is expected in the coming winter months," a statement by Tata Power DDL said.

The statement by the power distribution company (discom) added that long term power tie ups are in place to meeting the peak power demand effectively.

"Banking of power means exchange of electricity for electricity. Tata Power DDL has entered into power banking arrangements with different states, including Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh," the statement further said.

The discom claimed that it "exports power to these states during the off peak winter months" and the same is imported back by it during the summer months of May to September.

"The arrangement ensures non-stop supply to consumers," said Sanjay Banga, CEO, Tata Power DDL.
