Engineer among four killed as hydraulic lift plunges 35 feet

New Delhi: The negligence again killed four persons including an engineer in Rohini district area after they fell with the lift on Monday afternoon. Police claimed that all the deceased were inside the lift when the incident took place.

Police claimed that they fell from the height of 35 feet. "They were in the lift. It is an open lift from all four sides. Lift fell and they also fell," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta.

Police claimed that on October 29 at about 4.30 pm, one service engineer Pramod was working on the lift of a Tower Crane Machine along with three labourers Sonu 27, Rajakumar 25 and Sonu 25 in the DDA under construction site being run by B G Shirke company.

"The lift fell down from the height of about 35 feet due to some unknown reason and all the above mentioned four persons got injured who were declared dead in SRHC Hospital," said the DCP. Sources claimed that there was a chaotic scene at the spot after the incident.

Police further claimed that they are questioning several persons in this regard. Police claimed that they have registered a case under section 304 A (Causing death by negligence) and 287 (Negligent conduct with respect to machinery) of Indian Penal Code.

It is not the first death due to negligence, in July, a woman in her late 50s died after her saree came in contact with the machine in Narela area of Rohini district. The police were informed about the incident who reached the spot and found the body lying next to the machine whereas her head was found a few meters away at the spot. In October, a person died after a slab of the building fell on him in Swaroop Nagar area. Earlier, a building collapsed in North West Delhi's Sawan Park, killing seven persons.
