Elusive serial robbers of Model Town finally land in police net

New Delhi: Delhi Police breathed a sigh of relief after the two of the three serial robbers who went on a robbing spree in the capital including a Model Town family and New Friends Colony chemist shop fell in a police net in North East Delhi. Shockingly, Affan and Mohammad Chand in their early 20's along with their absconding partner Burhan have committed 18 robberies in Delhi within a span of 2 months.

Police were shocked to know that the three are residents of Muradnagar and Bijnor in UP and travelled to Delhi to commit robberies and fled back to their native places leaving the Delhi police in a tizzy.

When Anti Snatching & Robbery Cell of North East District got secret input about these robbers, a trap was laid down in front of Gurudwara, Loni Road, MIG flats. When Affan and Chand came on a bike they were apprehended. Pistol and cartridges have also been recovered from their possession.

The three had become a menace for Delhi Police after they went on a rampage and robbed a family in Model town on June 30. The family which returned from a relative's place at night was robbed at gunpoint in the parking area of their house. The husband-wife duo was robbed in front of their two children who were seated inside the car. The gruesome act was captured in the CCTV installed in the house.

Two days later, the same gang barged into a medical store which opened the whole night in New Friends Colony in Southeast Delhi. Brandishing pistols, they held the medical store staff at gunpoint and robbed them of nearly 1 lakh rupees. This daring act was also caught on cam. They have also confessed to their involvement in the two robberies

"These robbers also wore long stylish caps to avoid being caught on CCTV. They came from Bijnor and Muradnagar to Delhi in public transport and later robbed bikes and scooties in Delhi. They have also admitted to have fired on a police team in Adarsh Nagar area after they were returning from Model Town robbing a family," said DCP North East, Atul Thakur.

Police said that the trio met in jail and formed a gang in Bijnor. They later decided to commit robberies in Delhi and fall back in UP to dodge Delhi police. Delhi Police has formed teams to arrest their associate Burhan who also comes from Bijnor in Western UP. The police believe that the accused could be involved in more robberies than they presently confessed.
