Elderly sisters found murdered at Paschim Vihar residence
New Delhi: In a sensational double murder, two sisters in their late 70s were found dead in their apartment in Anandvan Society, near sports complex in Paschim Vihar on Thursday evening.
Police said the deceased women have been identified as 70-year-old Asha Pathak and 75-year-old Usha Pathak.
Cops added that one of the victims was strangulated to death, while the other was bludgeoned to death with a blunt object.
Police sources said they were informed of the murder at around 3.30 pm, soon after which a team reached the residence and found both women lying dead on the floor.
The house was sealed after a forensic team came and collected samples to find some clue about the culprit(s).
"Asha Pathak was a librarian at Krishi Bhavan in Delhi, and her sister Usha Pathak was a music teacher in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. Both had retired and were staying in the apartment for years and resided alone.
"We suspect a friendly entry in the house and have registered a case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code andinvestigation has been taken up," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Seju Kuruvilla.
According to police, both women were unmarried and stayed alone. Cops are now talking to the neighbours and examining CCTV footage of the area, while the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
Police later informed the relatives of the two sisters residing in Faridabad.
Senior police officers personally visited the spot and examined the crime scene on Thursday evening.
Cops are also investigating whether the case was a robbery bid-gone-awry or was any ulterior motive involved in the double murder.
They are also preparing to talk to the relatives of the deceased women to find out whether they had expressed any fear or suspicions in the recent past.
Call record details of the victims are also being checked.
