Eight-year-old girl's body found on terrace of mosque in Gzb

Ghaziabad: The body of a seven-year-old girl, reported missing from home since Saturday afternoon, was found packed in a gunny bag on the terrace of a mosque in Muradnagar area of Ghaziabad, on Sunday morning.

According to police, the girl has been identified as Reshma, daughter of Jahid Begh and a resident of mohalla Kot in Muradnagar area.

Cops said that after Reshma was found missing from her house on Saturday afternoon, her family lodged a police complaint on that evening.

"On Saturday, my daughter was nowhere to be found till evening. She went missing while she had gone to the nearby market. We searched the locality first and also enquired the market shop keepers but we could not find her.

"In the evening we lodged a missing person's complaint at Muradnagar police station" the girl's father said.

The sack was first noticed on the roof by a man in the area, who became suspicious when he saw flies buzzing around it. He alerted other persons in the locality, who immediately informed police about the same.

"Based on the complaint received from victim's family, we have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The family has alleged that Azaaz Baig, a member of Nagar Palika Parishad, is behind the murder and stated personal enmity developed during elections with the accused as the motive," said Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad.

"However, we are probing the matter and are expecting to make a breakthrough soon. We have detained a few suspects for questioning," he added.

Meanwhile, cops have not ruled out the possibility of sexual assault of the girl, but are waiting for the autopsy report.

"The matter is being investigated. This can be confirmed only after the autopsy report comes," added Krishna.
